Janet Matthews

Janet Matthews is a multi-award winning artist exhibiting regularly in Australia and overseas.

Janet’s work has been described as “weaving magic” with pencil. Her signature style is combining colour pencil and graphite, capturing in detail the personality and telling the story of the natural world.

“My art is my passion, especially pencil and I love to show the birds and animals in conversation and in action. Often there is a reflection of my own life and experiences as the concept for the work, as well as humour. High praise is for a viewer to smile when seeing my work. By drawing and exhibiting my ‘personalised’ artworks, I share my love of them with others and inspire them to protect and be aware of our creatures.”

Janet is a Fellow of the Wildlife Art Society of Australasia and a Fellow of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists. – She has a Diploma and a Graduate Diploma of Visual Arts, Monash University.

Accolades include –

Juried Award, Focus on Nature 2014, New York State Museum (top 14 artworks);- Commissions by Australia Post for stamp images released in 2006 and 2009;

– Artworks in the permanent collection of the New York State Museum, USA,

– 2013 and 2011 Wildlife Artist of the Year- (Wildlife Art Society of Australasia).
