Jan Pittman |
Jan Pittman lives in Gidgegannup, about an hour’s drive out of Perth, and is a member of the
Watercolour Society of WA, the Australian Guild of Realist Artists, the Wildflower Society of WA, and the Botanical Art Society of Australia. She has won awards at many shows and exhibitions, and in recent years has been a finalist in the Mortimore Prize for realistic painting and the inaugural Splash Award for Contemporary Watercolour. Jan has travelled with members of the Watercolour Society of WA to China, Italy and India, to participate in watercolour exhibitions. She paints portraits, flowers, animals, birds, shells and interesting objects, in a realistic style. Living on 100 acres (of which 90 acres is beautiful bushland) in Western Australia, which has more than half of the world’s wildflowers, is a joy! Jan teaches regular classes in botanical art, including one in Scotland for a friend’s art group during a trip there last year. She also enjoys “urban sketching”, and participates in local weekly life drawing/portrait sessions. Her preferred paints are Daniel Smith, for the sheer variety of tones, hues, and colours! She paints on both hot-pressed and cold-pressed paper. For the last few years she has participated in the Mundaring Hills Open Studios, and was until recently President of the Mundaring Weir Gallery. At present she is working towards completing a series of paintings of all the hakea fruits in WA, with the assistance of the WA Herbarium, and is hoping to publish these soon with help from the Wildflower Society of WA. | Website:https://www.janpittman.net/ |
