Joanna is originally from Brisbane, where she obtained a Bachelor of Education- Visual Art and Diploma of Horticulture and went on to teach Visual Arts, Science and Horticulture for nearly 20 years. She then moved with her young family to the Shoalhaven, NSW and now focuses her time on family and her passion for drawing botanically in graphite.
Joanna’s artworks combine her love of drawing and plants and rendering her subjects in graphite allows Joanna to remove the obvious identifying colours. She instead highlights the intricate lines, textures, and contrasting tones of the beautiful forms that nature creates for us, whether they are in full bloom or dying gracefully. She has worked to capture the subject’s form, allowing the plant to be recognisable, so that the viewer can make a connection with the artwork.
Joanna is a member of the Botanical Art Society of Australia and a regular member of the Bowral Botanical Group.
