Lucy Gray

Lucy Gray is a professional visual artist based in Mandurah, Western Australia.

In recent years, she has branched out to include Australian plants and their flowers, to add to her repertoire of ocean inspired artworks. Lucy loves details, and accurately depicts the intricacy of each plant specimen whether as an ink line drawing or watercolour painting.

She admits her own preference for the flowers of Banksias, Eucalypts and Corymbia, and enjoys working directly from a plant sample where it is possible, as well as working from her own photo references which she collects on bushwalks. Lucy’s appreciation for botanical art is rooted in her childhood. Her late grandmother, Ellaphie Ward-Hilhorst, was a South African botanical artist in her own right and contributed to the field of botany by studying and painting much South African flora, especially the Pelargonium.

Lucy admires the work of many Australian botanical artists including Philippa Nikulinsky and Julie Holcombe. She shares her love for botanical art with others by hosting workshops in botanical line drawing and botanical watercolours.
