Reveal the fantastic world of lichens and fungi, and see what is hidden from the eyes of many!
About the tutor:
Anna Voytsekhovich holds a PhD in Botany and is a professional scientist, scientific illustrator, botanical artist and wildlife illustrator. She was born in Ukraine in 1982. In 2003 she started her research on lichen symbiosis at the Institute of Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Since then she has found and described three species new to science and made several scientific discoveries. Anna has illustrated and published several books and scientific papers. In 2016 she moved to Sydney and became a member of the Botanical Art Society of Australia.
About the workshop:
In this two day workshop you will learn all about fungi and lichens and explore the science and ecology of these special plant groups. Join us for a field trip to sketch and observe fungi and lichens in nature. Learn about where, when and how to collect specimens, and how to store them. Back in our studio you will have an opportunity to observe specimens under microscopes and magnifying glasses to reveal the incredible structures of these beautiful plants. With guidance from Anna, you will then create your own scientifically accurate sketches of fungi and/or lichens in graphite, and then transform these into beautiful watercolour studies.
Suitable for intermediate to advanced students. A materials list will be provided after booking. Please bring your own lunch and refreshments for this workshop.
