As part of the Botanical Art Worldwide 2025 activities BASA is holding botanical art workshops in the Australian National Botanic Gardens, Canberra ACT.
Linda Lunnon will be doing a 1 day workshop on Scratchboard for Botanical Art in the Solander Studio at the Australian National Botanic Gardens on 13 April 2025 from 9:30am to 4:00pm.
Introduction to botanicals in scratchboard
This one day workshop will introduce participants to the meditative art of scratchboard. Scratchboard is a subtractive art medium, where a base panel is covered with a fine layer of white kaolin clay and sprayed with black ink. Marks are then etched into the black ink with sharp tools to reveal the white clay underneath. Linda will guide you through scratchboard techniques using various tools to create textures useful for botanical subjects. You are welcome to bring your own scratchboard supplies or a materials kit can be purchased for $30 on the day. These kits will include everything needed to create a 5x7 inch scratchboard piece. Reference images will be available to use or you're welcome to bring your own. Linda will bring a variety of tools to share during the workshop, including coloured inks for those that would like to dabble in adding colour.
