My Inspiration : My inspiration comes from the flora and fauna around me, I love the minutae of detail in flora and I just want to capture the essence of that detail that moves me. As a wildlife carer I am constantly exposed to the antics and personality of wildlife, they are forever inspiring and I long to capture this in my work. Also I am a keen conservationist and feel by exposing the public to our beautiful fauna in this way I hope that they appreciate what lives around them and that we need to look after our environment. As a wildlife carer Di had been tempted to dabble in wildlife drawing but did not seriously adopt this discipline until meeting Janet Matthews from Victoria. An extremely accomplished artist, Janet is recognised nationally and internationally for her beautiful works of wildlife in colour pencil. As such Di has commenced a new branch in her artistic endeavours through a journey of discovery into the world of colour pencils, described by Di as ‘her new love’ where the delicate and intricate nature of capturing fur, feathers and animals in natural poses are a soul filling challenge. Watercolour and Botanical art are still part of her passion as well. Memberships include- Wildlife and Botanical Artists, ACT Queanbeyan Art Society Awards include- Encouragement Award for Botanical Art 2006 Botanical Art Award 2005 Commended for Watercolour 2004 Commended for Drawing 2003 Highly Commended for the Botanical Art Award 2002 Di has always been in love with drawing, being recognized as early as Primary School with first prize for a bird submitted to the Gould Bird Lovers League club of Victoria. Di was born in Springvale, Victoria and has lived in various states of Australia but now calls a small locale called Burra, New South Wales, her home. Inspired by the fauna and flora of her rural property she is prompted to draw and capture from her surrounds and from her interest in botanics and native fauna. |
