The Flora 2019 exhibition opened in Chatswood on 28th August. Entries
were received from 57 artists entering 90 framed works, 17 unframed, 37
prints and 402 cards. It is interesting to note that the number of
graphite works were down but colour pencil numbers were up.
Barbara
Goldin and Deirdre Hart were this year’s judges for the Best in show
and Highly Commended awards. Best in Show, with prize money of $300 went
to Judy Morris for her Eryngium planum, Sea Holly in colour pencil.
Four
Highly Commended awards were given with each artist receiving $50. The
awards went to Tina Spira (Irises, Iris Germanica) watercolour, Melinda
Edstein (Bromeliads) colour pencil, Janet Matthews (Telopea
speciosissima) colour pencil and Jean Dennis (Malva assurgentiflora)
watercolour.
Barbara
and Deirdre felt that there were more artworks that deserved a mention
so Honourable Mentions were given to Janette Barlow, Margaret Beal,
Sara-Jane Kelsey, Anne Saville, Shipra Shah, Leda Turner and Anna
Voytsekhovich.
Anne Saville's Chestnuts also won the People's Choice Award.
